During his life, Ken McElroy was accused of dozens of felonies including assault, child molestation, statutory rape, arson, and burglary. He was indicted 21 times but was only convicted of one crime, shooting and injuring Ernest “Bo” Bowencamp, aged 70. He successfully appealed and was let out on bond. Once released, McElroy continued harassing Bowencamp for pressing charges against him. On July 10, 1981 McElroy was murdered while sitting in his pickup truck with his wife. The bullets came from two different rifles. No one was charged and his murder remains unsolved.
