The body of a naked Jane Doe was found in the Race Point Dunes in Provincetown, Massachusetts on July 26, 1974. Both of Doe’s hands had been removed along with a number of teeth. Thousands of missing persons cases were searched but no suitable matches were found. Initially, Tony Costa, a serial murderer, was thought to be the killer but was later eliminated as a suspect. A reconstruction of Jane Doe’s face led investigators to the organized crime figure Whitey Bulger, who was seen with a woman who resembled the composite around the time of Doe’s death, but Bulger was never charged. In 2004, serial killer Hadden Clark confessed to Doe’s murder but authorities considered it to be a false confession as Clark suffers from paranoid schizophrenia and has a history of providing false statements. Doe’s case remains unsolved.
